How It Began
I had been looking for them my whole life.
As a child on the prairies, I knew they were there. I couldn't have told you how I knew... I just did, the
way children know things before the world teaches them to doubt. When we visited my grandmother,
whose home was near a forest, I was in the woods every chance I got, looking. Searching. Waiting. I
never did see them with my eyes. And then we moved to a deep forested mountain, and every Saturday
morning I would get up, still in my pajamas, and run into the woods looking for them. Over and over,
season after season. Knowing they were there. Never quite finding them.
And then I grew up, and forgot all about it. As adults do.
Years later, through a series of experiences, I found myself developing a
relationship with a Sasquatch named Kahala (kuh-HAY-luh). He was a young male, tasked with
helping the younger ones in his group learn how to interact with humans, a kind of teacher, or perhaps
more accurately, a shepherd. I was trusted with his young charges, I believe, because I was older, and
had raised and homeschooled children of my own. They seemed to know I could be trusted with the
little ones.
One afternoon, I was on my way to the wetlands where I met with Kahala and the children regularly,
and found the parking lot closed. So I drove up the mountain instead, and found a tiny, unmarked path
on the side of the road. I pulled over and started walking. Within minutes, I felt it: that feeling, which I
now know very well. Something magical is here!
It was October, close to five o'clock, and the sun was already slipping down behind the trees. I turned
back, but I was determined to return. A few months later, I went back up that path with my daughter.
And that is when the fae realm encounters began.
The Sasquatch have ways of working with people, and they communicate across distances and
relationships in ways we are only beginning to understand. I believe it was no accident that I found that
unmarked path on that particular afternoon. My years of inner practice and my openness to other realms
were cultivated through experiences I hadn't fully understood at the time. The developing relationships
with these beings had been quietly preparing me. When the moment came, I was ready. And something,
or someone, knew it.
I have been going back to that mountain ever since. What I have found there, and in other wild places
over the years since, is what Forest Wisdom Circle is about. I offer it to you not as a definitive accounts of
what fairies or Sasquatch are or how the unseen world works, as direct experience, in the hope that it
opens something in you that has perhaps been waiting, just as I was
waiting, for a long time.
They are real. They are here. And they are waiting to meet you.
